About

I’m Naomi. I live in upstate NY on the suburban/rural divide.

I’m using birdwatching as a mental discipline. I have watched birds for years, sometimes observing behavior and sometimes getting all obsessive about ticking off lists. I hope to maintain this blog somewhere in between, using it as a tool to practice focus, memory, attention. I also want to get better at photography and take some photos worth sharing.

When I have given up in despair on taking an adequate bird portrait, I will sometimes use photos others have taken. These will always be properly attributed with ©Source.

I saw your website at the end of your ESQ email and I was curious. Your blog is interesting. I watch a lot of birds in my backyard but I don’t know their names. This Fall we had a pretty black bird with a gorgeous red fluffy mop top. This past summer we had a baby red hawk perched on the deck railing too frightened to take flight again. A few years back there was a lot of squawking outside and the next thing I heard was a big thug against the corner of the garage. I went outside to find a hawk lying on our driveway. I was hoping he only knocked himself out and left him alone but he never regained consciousness. I never knew about the eagles in Cohoes and will take a drive over for a look see. Like your photography.
