The end of April already! This month has gone by so quickly and brought so many birds despite what felt like Biblical quantities of rain. It didn’t quite rain every single day, but it sure felt like it! We also had a few days in the mid-80s so everything burst into bloom and leaf at once.
Washington Park in Albany is a marvel in spring, a haven of flowering trees and tulips. Many of the massive specimen trees must date back to the park’s creation in the 1870s. Tulip Festival over Mothers’ Day weekend has always been a big deal, outdoor music, craft and art vendors, lots of food and families. Unfortunately in recent years it has degenerated into a giant beer blast, with little police enforcement, so I time my visits accordingly. It wasn’t very birdy yesterday, the gardens weren’t quite at peak, and the rain returned (of course!). Even so, the colors were a joy and a visual feast. Enjoy the slide show of some of my favorites.
